The United States became the largest importer of Iranian handmade carpets
According to Bulletin News, the head of the National Carpet Center of Iran announced the export of $ 350 million worth of Iranian handmade carpets last year and said that the United States was the first importer of carpets from Iran. According to Tasnim, Hamid Kargar, head of the National Carpet Center of Iran, said: “Last year, about $ 350 million worth of Iranian handmade carpets were exported to different countries, which increased by 27% in value and 16.5% in weight.
” Kargar added: “America, Germany” , Lebanon, UAE, Pakistan, Japan, Britain, Qatar, South Africa and Australia were the top ten customers of Iranian handmade carpets last year, and the United States is the top importer of carpets from Iran.
He described the development of the carpet industry as very rapid and said: “With the aim of increasing the quality of Iranian carpets, many training programs have been held for carpet weavers with goals such as using good raw materials, desirable carpet texture, using attractive designs, and workplace health.”
According to Kargar, last year, the National Carpet Center of Iran supported 10 student projects related to the carpet industry and completed 6 research projects in this field, and during the 11 years since the establishment of the National Carpet Center of Iran, 121 projects have been carried out. Research and support of 79 student dissertations are in the record of this center.
According to him, currently 26 university centers are specialized in teaching carpet weaving related sciences and 300 specialists graduate in this industry annually. The head of the National Carpet Center of Iran continued: Last year, 207 training courses including more than 149 thousand man-hours for hand-woven carpet industry activists have been held in Geshour, which has led to an increase in the quality of Iranian carpet production.
Regarding the registration of Iranian carpets, Kargar said: “So far, 46 regions that are active in the field of handmade carpet production have been nationally registered and 7 regions are being registered.” Referring to the government’s support for the production of Iranian carpets, he said: “Since 1993, more than 325,825 million rials have been paid to carpet weavers, which has led to a boom in the production of handmade carpets in Iran.” The government is the eleventh and has increased employment and exports in this sector.
