Simultaneous reduction of import tariffs on clothing and textiles
Simultaneous reduction of clothing and textile import tariffs: In order to support the production sector, reduce clothing prices and also prevent smuggling, reduce clothing import tariffs by 20% from 75% to 55% while simultaneously reducing fabric import tariffs by 40% from 40% to 32% were on the agenda.
Accordingly, the director of the Research Center of Tehran Garment Trade Unions regarding the reduction of clothing import tariff from 75% to 35% and the consequences of this decision stated: The clothing import tariff in March 2014 was 200%, followed by April 2015, respectively. To 150 percent, in September 2016 to 75 percent and in the last stage, which has recently been decided in relation to 55 percent.
The director of the Research Center of Tehran Garment Trade Unions, announcing that the reduction of clothing import tariff has been accompanied by a reduction in fabric import tariff, said: Simultaneous import tariff has been reduced from 40% to 32% and this will cause raw materials to cost more. Produce less space for producers and production space so that producers can be in a competitive environment with their foreign competitors.
