The generals of Chaldoran’s accession to the Mako Free Zone were approved
The general plan for the annexation of Chaldoran city to Mako Industrial Free Trade Zone was approved by the members of the Planning and Development Council of West Azerbaijan. In this meeting, it was decided that in order to prevent the increase of the area of Mako Free Zone, the part that does not have commercial and industrial capabilities, should be removed from this zone and Chaldoran city should be considered instead.
Ghorban Ali Saadat, the governor of West Azerbaijan, said in a meeting of the West Azerbaijan Planning and Development Council: “Chaldoran city is one of the less developed regions of the province, and its annexation to the Mako Industrial Free Trade Zone can pave the way for the development of this city.”
He added: “Due to the shortages in Chaldoran, a lot of migration from this city to other cities in the province is happening, so that currently the population growth rate in this region is negative.”
He said: “By joining Chaldoran to the Mako Industrial Free Trade Zone, we can envision a bright future for this region and solve many of the city’s problems in various economic fields.”
According to IRNA, the Mako Industrial Free Trade Zone covers more than 5,000 hectares on the border between Iran and Turkey and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with the cities of Mako, Shut and Poldasht within the region.
Chaldoran is one of the cities of West Azerbaijan, which is located on the border of Iran with Turkey and between the cities of Mako and Khoy. Chaldoran, despite its many capabilities, is one of the less developed cities of West Azerbaijan. The city has an area of nearly 2,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 50,000.
